Hypnosis to Quit Smoking

Other than nicotine replacement therapy and non nicotine medication, which I mentioned in my earlier posts, hypnosis is getting popular to stop smoking too. This works by inducing a deeply relaxed state and the person is receptive and open to suggestions to strengthen his resolve to quit smoking and to increase negative feelings towards cigarettes. It works very well even though you believe you have a strong will to stop smoking.

Non Nicotine Medication to Quit Smoking

To stop smoking, you might need aids on top of will power. In the last post, I have discussed Nicotine Replacement Therapy to Stop Smoking. Here’s let’s talk about non nicotine medication.

2 medications are approved for short term used in smoking cessation programs – bupropion and varenicline. Both are prescription drugs and supposedly helped to reduce cigarette cravings and withdrawal symptoms after you made that important step to stop smoking.

Other than going to doctors, do your own reading and you might be able to learn from people who shared their own experiences openly.

Quitting smoking is no longer as daunting as before. When will power is not enough to stop smoking, there are many method. One being Nicotine Replacement Therapy.

This involves replacing cigarettes with the nicotine substitutes such as nicotine gum or patches The former is chewing gums that releases nicotine is minute doses for absorption into the bloodstream. The latter is like a plaster that delivers nicotine via the skin.

How it helps? The therapy helps smokers to break their psychological addiction and cope with withdrawal symptoms. They can focus on learning new behaviours and coping skills.

 Smoking more Harmful to Women

Filed under: Benefits To Quit, Smoking, Tests & Surveys — admin @ Jun 28th, 2009

Looks like there is more reasons for women to quit smoking now that there is more proof that smoking is harmful for the fairer sex.

“Smoking is more harmful to women” – That’s what the USA researchers said in May 2009.

They said women who smoke develop lung damage earlier in life than men and it takes less cigarette exposure to cause damage in women compared to men.

Dr Inga-Cecolic Soerheim and researchers at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and the University of Brigham in Norway said that their analysis showed that “women may be more vulnerable to the effects of smoking”.

The good doctor presented this at the American Thoracic Society in San Diego and she said her team analyzed 954 people in Norway with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) which includes lung problems from chronic bronchitis to emphysema. In the study 60% were men and the rest were women. All were current or former smokers. Overall both groups had similar lung impairment. They looked at folks under 60 years old and lighter smokers, they found women had more severe disease and worse lung function thatn mean.

“This means that female smokers in our study experienced reduced lung function at a lower level of smoking exposure and at an earlier age than men,” said Dr Soerheim. She suspected that the difference is related to anatomy. Because the fairer sex has smaller airway and that could make each cigarette potentially more dangerous. Also hormones may have a contributing role too.

Some believe that a few cigarettes a day is OK but just like the doctor said “in the low exposure group in this study, half the women actually had severe COPD.”

Perhaps, women, you should find out more about quitting smoking. I have some additional reading to suggest to you:

Does Quit Smoking Laser Treatment Work?

Ever since I have quit smoking, I had never look back. However, I know many cannot go through the cold turkey period. It was tough mentally, emotionally and physically. Many people prefer to quit smoking painlessly, and there are many ways. One of the methods that has growing popularity is the laser method.

I recently read Izrul Fizal’s article and have reproduced here for the benefits of the community here. Note how he stressed that the method will NOT stop your smoking habit but reduced the addiction. It means you are still in command, you are still in the driving seat to decide if you can actually quit smoking!

Ever wondered how the process of quit smoking laser treatment works? If you are a hardcore smoker and would like to quit smoking fast and effectively, you should consider using quit smoking laser treatment. This treatment is relatively new method and works almost the same as acupuncture which is to apply pressure to certain energy point to reduce your addiction of smoking.

Quit smoking laser treatment works by applying laser to the center of nerves system that will reduce or permanently stop your smoking addiction. This is very important because many people who really want to stop smoking are having difficulties to stop their bad addiction. If the addiction is less, then you have taken the first step to finally quit smoking.

You cannot rely on quit smoking laser treatment so much because like mentioned earlier, it will not totally remove your smoking habit but rather than reduce your addiction. However, you can take other necessary steps to quit smoking much easier once you have run through the process of treatment. You should consider to use quit smoking patches and join a community who wish to quit their smoking habit to further achieve a good result. You can also ask your doctor some advice on how to stop smoking as well and nobody can deny a doctor’s advice.

Study has shown that quit smoking laser treatment may not help you that much to because most people do not have a strong desire to stop smoking in the first place. It is up to you to really obtain the good result. The technology is there only to help you by making it a lot easier. Smoking is a very bad habit and bad habit usually die hard.

Several factors you need to consider before going with the quit smoking laser treatment. The cost is slightly expensive than any other method and the result is not guaranteed. However, some health insurance will cover the cost of your treatment so you better check out with your insurance company to reduce your cost. Also, you need to combine whatever method to help you quit smoking with the treatment so you can get a much positive result.

 Smoking Causes Blindness

Filed under: Benefits To Quit, Smoking, Tests & Surveys — admin @ Jun 4th, 2008

In a cross-cultural survey in Scotland and Singapore, only 1 in 3 respondents was aware that smoking can cause blindness!

The survey was conducted by a group at Scotland’s Ninewell Hospital and Singapore’s Alexandra Hospital from November 2007 to February 2008. Researchers polled 112 participants from Scotland and 163 participants from Singapore to compare their awareness of various smoking-related conditions as well as attitudes towards the use of graphic health warning labels printed on cigarette packs.

85% in both countries knew the risk of lung cancer, heart disease, mouth and throat cancer (oral cancer) and stroke but only about one-third of the respondents knew about smoking causes blindness.

According to Associate Professor Au EongKah Guan, head and senior consultant, department of ophthalmology and visual sciences of Alexandra Hospital and an investigator of the study: “Cigarette smoking increases the risk of age-related macular degeneration by 3-fold to 4-fold and cataract by 2 to 3-fold. Age-related macular degeneration is a deterioration in the health of the most sensitive part of the retina known as macula. A cataract is clouding of the normally clear crystalline lens in the eye.”

Smoke-related Diseases.Currently the Singapore investigation study team is talking to its Health Promotion Board to add the warning “Smoking causes blindness on cigarette packs. Graphic warning labels have been circulation in in Singapore since 2004 and were later modified in 2006. You can see the graphic labels published at HPB to your left here. However, Australia is the only country so far to carry the graphic warning label which reads “Smoking causes Blindness”.

Incidentally, Britain is considering to get cigarette manufacturers to pack the cigarette in plain black and white box so that they look less attractive to youngsters.
